Virtual Worlds for Kids
Mar 18, 2015 | 0 Votes - rate There are many virtual worlds and games around, but what exactly are they and what can your child do in them? We will describe what they have, how they can help your child and if they are safe.Virtual Worlds are places that are created for lots of players to explore all at the same time. They are often themed and have their own stories, or they can also be a mirror of the real world too. They let you create yourself an avatar and then personalize it, with clothes and accessories. But most importantly they are social places where people can meet.
There are special versions of these games just for children, instead of copying the real world they create fun ones full of adventure and games. Sometimes you can become an animal, or your character can be a teddy bear. With bright colors, simple language and special stories to be told these kids virtual worlds are unique and fun places to be.
Once the kid has chosen a character, often with some options to pick from they can then begin to explore. Sometimes they will have a house of their own to decorate with furniture or cool stuff and there will be shops where they can buy clothes, or even hoverboards to fly around on. Wherever they go there will be other kids around that they can play games with or talk to and make friends with.
These worlds also often have games to play, from really simple games like tic tac toe to maths puzzles or lessons on geography. How educational these games are varies from world to world but in almost every case there is something for your child to learn here. These games will also reward you with stars or coins to spend on cool clothes and items, teaching the value of money and how save for the things that you want.
There are also many lessons outside of the games too, in Animal Jam for example there are videos on nature and the animal kingdom. In Herotopia you can help the environment by clearing up the mess and learn how important it is to throw things in the bin. While this may sound a little dull, the game includes it so neatly that your child will actually enjoy it.
As mentioned before there will be other kids to talk to as they are also in the same place at the same time as your own child. Sometimes these games have only a select few things you can say, or are restricted in some way. In other games you can freely type what you want, but there are words that do not show at all. They are not even able to be typed, as well as these features these virtual worlds also have systems in place where the kids can report any behavior, or things that they don’t like.
Outside of this there are moderators that watch the games to make sure everyone is safe and as a parent you can set controls for the game, what you child can and can’t do or say. Every step is taken to make these games safe and fun places to learn and play, and also meet new friends and just chat to kids their own age.
There are several different games available, and each of them has something brilliant and unique to offer your child. Creating characters is fun and playing educational games in a place where you can also make friends is a really good thing. There are some games that are more educational than others, that much is true. When you find that great game for your child it can be brilliant, for you and for them and we hope that there are worlds here on Games Educate Kids that your child will enjoy and learn from.
