Starfall is a game app that contains a myriad of educational mini-games, which range from teaching about the alphabets to some basic math and counting, as well as a plethora of exciting stories, fun rhymes and entertaining sing-alongs that your child would love.
Educational Aspects
Shapes -In Starfall, your child will get to play a mini-game where he/she will be asked to match geometrical shapes to everyday objects.
Puzzles -There are puzzles as well in this game that are not too complicated for a child to solve but is challenging and tricky enough to make them think critically.
Time -Your child will be able to learn how to tell the time by playing a mini-game provided in Starfall. They will also learn about the date and days of the week via the Calendar button on the bottom left side of the screen.
Patterns -The Patterns mini-game is quite different from other games out there. Here, your child will be asked to pick a set of patterns that they want and they will then be given a maze to go through. As long as they follow the sequence of patterns they’ve chosen previously, they should be able to leave the maze quite easily.
Measurement -Starfall provides a mini-game that teaches your child how to measure various items using other objects such as crayons (instead of the standard metrics). Your child will also be asked to compare the sizes of the said measured items.
Numbers -For younger kids, Starfall teaches the numbers 1 to 100 through short animated videos. There are many mini-games for your child to practice his or her grasp on how numbers work too.
Counting -Your child will be asked to count raspberries in order to make a comparison – to determine which side has more berries than the other. There’s also another counting game that teaches kids about how the US currency (coins mainly) adds up from cents to quarters.
Math -If your kids are in 1st and 2nd grade, you can let your children practice their basic math, from addition up to division, with Starfall. There are even “Math Songs” that can help your child remember the various rules of mathematical operations.
Alphabet -Besides numbers and math, your child can learn the alphabet in Starfall. There’s a section in the game where the game even teaches alphabets for deaf kids.
Reading -With so many Plays, Fiction, and Nonfiction works, such as Comics, Folk Tales, Greek Myths, Chinese Fables and more, available in Starfall, your child will definitely enjoy the reading process.
Phonics -Starfall even offers fun phonics lessons which will help improve your child’s pronunciation.
Colors -Last but not least, the game provides entertaining videos and interactive lessons for your kid/s to learn all the colors of the rainbow and more.
Less Educational Aspects
Replay Value -Due to this huge amount of very diverse content in Starfall, your child will definitely be entertained while they learn for a very long time.
Motivation -Although your child won’t get a prize, medal or achievement for completing each section of the game, your kid will at least get to earn stars within some of the mini-games available. Earning stars is a great way to motivate your child to either repeat a game that he/she did badly at or to complete as many mini-games as they can just so they could earn more stars.
Special Features
Sing-alongs -Starfall contains a wide range of sing-alongs including Historical American Folk Songs, like Oh California and Boll Weevil; ABC rhymes; common nursery rhymes, like Eensy Weensy Spider and Georgie Porgie; as well as special sing-alongs created by Starfall themselves.
Special event activities -If there happens to be a special event that’s just around the corner, Starfall will unlock the corresponding special event activities in the game. For instance, Autumn with Halloween just 1 month away at the time of this review, so kids are able to create their own pumpkin carving/art and see it come to life!
